FYI [May. 30th, 2007|11:42 pm]
Mixonic is ending their CD making service June 30th. Awesome.
So...that means if you want a Mall Monkeys CD, you can't get one after that date. All gone. :(

The Animator and the Seat [Apr. 25th, 2007|01:53 pm]
[Current Mood | busy]

The Animator and the Seat is FINALLY finished!
Length: 2:08

I'd rather you check out this version of the movie -- even though its 200 megs, it is bigger and much, much clearer in quality. If you don't have time (or the web connection) for that, check out the 12 meg divx version. (http://www.divx.com for the codec).

I've spent more than a year slaving over this bad boy, so I hope you enjoy. This is my senior thesis for graduation at Ringling College of Art and Design. (yes, they changed their name.) Currently, The Animator and the Seat has been accepted into the Siggraph 2007 Animation Theater and is being judged for other film festivals.

Let me know how much you hate it!

Yeah, you want Frank. Admit it.

Alright, I'm out.

P.S. This is a Marisa who also loves an Eric (more than Frank), and well, let's face it ... he's better than everyone piled together, covered in chocolate, with a cherry on top!

Chunk Facial Animation Test - 15 megs

The animation is pretty rough and glitchy considering I did it in under 24 hours. I'll probably fix it up after thesis is over because it was way fun.

I wish one of my characters wasn't always sitting on my other character.

I'm drowning in CTLs.

:( [Oct. 19th, 2006|10:07 pm]
Dear Rigging,
I hate you more now than I ever could have imagined.
Sincerely,
A sad, sick Drobile

PS. PICTURES

Chunk is really stretchy.

Chunk has approximately four billion controls for animation, signified by the blue curves.

A 3D chair is impossible to rig, and there is tons and tons of mutually supportive scientific evidence to back me up on this.

Better quality shots soon. Going to be detailing the eye, teeth, and stubble textures, too.

Let the blendshape fun begin... [Oct. 3rd, 2006|11:27 pm]
Started blendshaping...still pretty rough, but no animator can resist playing with screenshots and sliders.

Critique 1 [Sep. 29th, 2006|03:57 pm]
Well I hit my first milestone this year for senior thesis. Critique was a big success -- got a lot of great suggestions. Chunk's collar will be fixed (finally), the chair's "hands" will be rounded, and a slew of other small changes -- but give the turntables and pictures a looksee, they're preeeeetty finishedish.

But the biggest change of all is that the whole power-outage/losing his work on the computer thing is going out the window. It's not terribly necessary, a bit awkward, and slows down the beginning of the piece. This is buying me 12-22 seconds where I can have more of the struggle with Chunk and the Chair. The end seems a bit too quick right now. To see what I mean here is the old animatic.

If you see me in the near future and I look like I want to commit suicide (or already have), please just poke me with a stick (preferably in the cornea) and bolt. We have to have a 3D ANIMATIC IN A MONTH, and I cannot stress how absurd that due date truely is.

It's really fucking absurd.

Turnaround movies! [Sep. 26th, 2006|12:25 pm]
I made some temporary turnaround movies before our big faculty critique on friday so I could get more suggestions.

http://www.rsad.edu/~edrobile/Chunk.mov 13 megs
The background is too dark, and there is some texture stretching on his shirt (the palm trees could use some rearranging). Also his shoes need some detailing/dirtying. Any comments on colors/textures/lighting?

http://www.rsad.edu/~edrobile/Chair.mov 11 megs
I want the chair to be shiny...really shiny...but I'm afraid this is too shiny. Comments?

Thanks!
